At a time when most children are dreaming of all the gifts that surround the family Christmas tree, a heart that is only nine years old, has a different dream. A young and innocent heart is dreaming of a world where no one goes hungry, neither adults nor children; a world where everyone has plenty to eat and no one goes without.
M. is a nine-year old girl who will make a difference this year in the lives of many who are struggling to feed their families this Christmas season. M. has asked her parents to help her buy food for those in need this holiday season instead of buying gifts for her. And M. did not stop there. She asked her parents to help her search out others who think the same way she does; and she found them! M. and her parents, with the help and generosity of local businesses, brought 557 lbs. of healthy, nutritious food to the RCS Food Bank and helped create 639 meals for those in her community who would have gone without otherwise.
In our county of Pinellas, about 920,000 people live, work, and love, but close to 130,000 friends, neighbors, and families, will struggle to have a holiday meal this season. The RCS Food Bank and many wonderful additional agencies throughout Pinellas work very hard to help ensure that those in need of food find it.
Our story of M. is a real life miracle that happened here at RCS Food Bank yesterday and brought many a tear to all those who helped unload her family’s vehicle. Young M. is a testament to the spirit of giving. Thank you to all those who guided this young heart in pursuit of her dream of helping those that she could and thank you to M. , in whose dream I am proud to have played a part.
